7 Comox Valley organizations benefit through recovery funds: CVCF

The Comox Valley Community Foundation says seven local organizations are benefitting from the federal government’s community services recovery fund.

The funding makes a total $271,000 and it has been given to non-profits, charities and Indigenous governing bodies.

The government says it is there to help them adapt, modernize and be better equipped to improve the efficacy, accessibility and sustainability of the community services that they provide through the pandemic recovery.

Organizations and their allotted funding include:

  • Fanny Bay Community Association: $26,985 for digital communications
  • Wachiay Friendship Centre: $34,500 to modernize cybersecurity and educational training facilities
  • LUSH Valley Food Action Society: $69,000 for full-cost accounting framework and evaluation tools
  • Comox Valley Family Services Association: $66,655 to enhance marketing and fund development capacity
  • Comox Valley Senior Support Society: $31,807 to assist with amalgamation with Campbell River Seniors info hub
  • Cumberland Community Schools Society: $26,053 for communications and technology system upgrades
  • Comox Valley Community Justice Centre: $16,000 invested to modernize communications processes and technologies

The foundation adds that community service organizations are at the forefront of addressing our community’s needs but have struggled with increased demand for services since the pandemic.

Reduced revenues, declines in charitable giving due to cost of living and a greater need for digital tools have also been issues, the foundation says.

“Community service organizations are at the heart of communities like the Comox Valley Community Foundation, creating a sense of belonging from coast to coast to coast,” said minister of families, children and social development Jenna Sudds.

“The community services recover fund will enable organizations that serve our diverse communities to adapt and modernize their programs and services and to invest in the future of their organizations, staff and volunteers.”
