Local Mounties are are on the case after a pedestrian came upon a partial stick of dynamite and two blasting caps on the Rotary Trail, between 19th street and 17th street in Courtenay on Tuesday night.
Police say the area was searched by an explosive search dog but nothing else was found.
Constable Don Sinclair this incident could have had far different results had the explosive been activated.
The investigation continues, and anyone with information should contact Comox Valley RCMP, or Crimestoppers.
