New project to expand Cumberland Lake Park Campground

Your camping experience could get more comfortable with a new project to expand the Cumberland Lake Park Campground.

The project, funded by the Island Coastal Economic Trust, will construct and install five glamping-style sites for the campground. Each will include sleeping barrels and other amenities.

Village mayor Vickie Brown says while Cumberland has become an international tourism spot, the campground is their only bulk accommodation.

“This project will provide much-needed, additional tourism infrastructure in a sustainable and respectful relationship with the land,” said Brown.

The sites will not only bring access to hiking, rock climbing, and mountain biking, but they will also be used to respond to camper preferences and to encourage low-impact camping.

A total of $33,555 will be invested by the trust, with hopes that the new sites will expand the camping season.

The project is now underway.
