Old Sechelt Mine fire expected to grow

The estimate on the size of the 300 hectare Old Sechelt Mine fire is expected to grow following a series of controlled burns.

Fire Information Officer Ellie Dupont says there are 49 crew members, 3 helicopters and 16 pieces of heavy equipment working on it.

Dupont says the Dog Mountain fire on Sproat Lake is now mapped at 400 hectares.

There’s a controlled burn underway today.

The 16 hectare fire near Port Hardy is now 50% contained.

The Boulder Creek and Cougar creek fires are 5000 hectares and the Elaho Fire is still an estimated 20,000 hectares.
