Cumberland council to hold two workshops on financial plan

Work on a new financial plan for Cumberland will begin with two upcoming workshops.

The draft budget will focus on attempts to balance immediate priorities, the need for increases to reserve funds, future policing increases, and staff needs.

As part of the work, two workshops are taking place in council chamber, with the first one set for Wednesday October 18 at 9am.

The second workshop will happen on October 25, also at 9 am.

Both of the workshops will be open to the public.

The Village says staff will then present a report of the proposed 2024-2028 financial plan to mayor and council, which would include a tax revenue increase of 5.90 percent.

Following these workshops, the plan will be provided to the public on November 20, with the financial plan bylaw to come to council three times between late 2023 and early 2024.

They plan on adopting the plan sometime before May 15 next year.
