Cloudy, discoloured water to be expected in water flushing next week

The City of Courtenay says your water may be cloudy or oddly coloured as they do watermain flushing starting early next week.

They say the flushing will happen in east Courtenay between Monday and Nov. 17 in the area between upper Muir Road/Mission Road to Klanawa Crescent; the area bounded by Evergreen Avenue, 4th Street East, Malahat Drive and Lerwick Road; and the area from Crown Isle Boulevard to McDonald Drive.

The flushing will happen between 7:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. on weekdays. Aside from the oddly coloured water, you can also expect there to be short-term water pressure fluctuations.

Effects will likely be noticeable for less than an hour, according to the city.

“Activities such as laundry and dishwashing should be scheduled outside of flushing hours,” the city said. “To clear discoloured water, run cold water taps. If after one hour the water still does not clear. Contact public works services for assistance.”

The city adds the flushing helps reduce turbidity, sediment, silt and biofilms along with chlorine demand and increases the life of the components.
