Major progress in massive Port Alberni area blaze

Crews have the 450 hectare Dog Mountain fire on Sproat Lake now 90% contained, thanks to a series of successful controlled burns over the last few days.

Fire Information Officer Ellie Dupont explains.

On the Sunshine Coast, The Old Sechelt Mine fire is still mapped at 300 hectares and it’s 40% contained.

A 16 hectare fire near Port Hardy is 75% contained.

The Boulder Creek and Cougar Creek fires are both an estimated 5000 hectares, and the size of the Elaho fire has been recalcualted at 15,000 hectares.
