Métis Week to be acknowledged next week in Comox Valley

The Comox Valley’s governments will recognize Métis Week.

The week, which runs from November 12 to 18, focuses on highlighting and celebrating the heritage, history, and contributions of the Métis people.

As part of recognizing the week, three flag-raising events will take place throughout the Valley on November 14, including one at the Village of Cumberland office at 10 am, another at Comox’s town hall at 12 pm, and the last event set at Courtenay’s city hall at 3 pm.

Louis Riel Day will follow the flag-raising, with the day being used to acknowledge Riel’s importance as a political leader and advocate of justice for the Métis people.

The MIKI’SIW Métis Association will celebrate the day by holding a dinner, bingo, and dancing at the Comox Legion from 4:30 to 8 pm.

The event is set for Thursday next week.
