2000 people sound the alarm on telephone scam

Fraudsters are still targeting customers with telephone scams.

BC Hydro is telling people to stay informed and spread the word.

Media spokesperson Maurice Scott says if an account is late in payments, BC Hydro will send several notices by mail, and use an auto dialer to contact them, so it’s actually a long process.

Scott says BC Hydro never collects credit card information or bank account information over the phone.

These frauds are happening to utilities across North America and BC Hydro is constantly working with authorities to end it.

If you get a phone call from a fraudster, Scott advises you to hang up and call BC Hydro immediately.
