Comox Valley Healthcare Foundation seeking more donations for medical imaging equipment

The Comox Valley Healthcare Foundation says they are approaching the halfway point in its fundraiser for medical imaging equipment, hoping to hit $500,000.

According to co-executive director Rhonda Stevens, they have been working closely with staff at the Comox Valley Hospital. The goal is to directly improve the ability of the healthcare professionals to give high quality care, particularly to the diagnosis and management of cancer.

“Approximately 100,000 medical imaging scans occur annually at the Comox Valley Hospital, and they have a vital role in informing medical care,” said Stevens.

“Providing more diagnoses quicker, ensuring better treatment outcomes and improving access and care for the residents for the Comox Valley and our surrounding community.”

Stevens says the campaign started back in the spring with support from their medical imaging lead department. They will continue to work with the community to achieve the goal of getting the cutting-edge tech for the hospital.

As we pass Giving Tuesday, Stevens says more donations can be made online through their website or by calling their office.

She adds anyone who donates between now and Dec. 3 will be entered to win a hydro pass gift card to Kingfisher Oceanside Resort and Spa.

“Any donations made this week will be matched by RBC wealth management up to $5,000,” said Stevens. “People can also pop over to Cobs Bread at the Driftwood Mall and purchase tarts, and $2 from every purchase will go towards supporting medical imaging.”

Stevens adds they are optimistic that they will have achieved their goal by next spring and they will be able to bring in new equipment as needed.
