Police investigating assault with weapon on Riverside Trail

One male was taken to hospital yesterday after being assaulted with a weapon underneath the 17th Street bridge.

Comox Valley RCMP responded to the call at around 10:30 am on Thursday, spoke with the victim and identified the location of the assault, along the Riverside Trail.

The initial investigation suggests the two people involved, suspect and victim, had an altercation earlier in the day which led up to this assault. The victim suffered a serious, but non life-threatening injury to his head.

Investigators have gathered surveillance footage, interviewed witnesses, examined the scene and are currently working to apprehend the suspect.

Police say this is being considered an isolated and targeted assault with no risk to the general public.

Anyone with information about the assault should call the Comox Valley RCMP’s non-emergency line.
