Tough talk from the BC Government on human caused fires

The province says it’s ready to look at things like impounding the cars of people who flick their butts out the window, and banishment from provincial parks for violating campfire bans, in order to curb person caused wild fires.

Forests Minister Steve Thomson announced today he’s asking his Parliamentary Secretary to study new enforcement measures, and new penalties.

The major fires this month in the Island Coastal region this month – the Dog Mountain, Old Sechelt Mine and Tsulquate River near Port Hardy – are all thought to be person caused.
