Comox Fire Department crew back home from Dog Mountain firefighting effort

At Sproat Lake near Port Alberni, quite the team effort as some Vancouver Island fire departments backed up both forest, and air crews, in battling the massive 450 hectare Dog Mountain fire.

Comox Fire Chief Gord Schreiner set up a Structural Protection Unit, whereby sprinker systems are rigged up on homes to keep sparks at bay, from torching homes in the area.

Schreiner tallies up the number of homes his fire crews protected…

Schreiner says it was definitely a team effort in working with other fire agencies.

Meanwhile the 450 hectare Dog Mountain Fire is now 100 per cent contained.
