The Comox Valley Regional District is opening three warming centres as temperatures are expected to drop below –4 for the next few nights.
As of Thursday morning, the district says Courtenay’s Lower Native Sons Hall will be open from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m. Friday. It will be for patrons only and outside visitors will not be accepting outside visitors.
Hornby Island will also have a warming shelter open throughout the day at Joe King Ball Park and the Denman Island Community Hall will be providing 24-hour service for the island.
Year-round shelters are also offered at the Comox Valley Transition Society with 33 beds available, and at the Governing Council of the Salvation Army with 12 beds available, according to BC Housing.
The district adds the centres are scheduled to activate today and be open for the duration of the very cold weather.
