RCMP say driver charged with murder following fatal hit and run

RCMP say a person is charged with murder following a fatal hit and run in Courtenay last Thursday night.

RCMP say they responded to a report of an injured cyclist on the Comox Valley Parkway near Minto Road. They add a passerby found the cyclist and called 911.

The cyclist was taken to the hospital, however, he succumbed to his injuries. The Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit took the investigation and found the suspect vehicle in the collision.

Following this, RCMP say they arrested the 45-year-old Cumberland driver on Saturday. He is charged with first-degree murder and failing to stop after an accident, causing death.

Police say the man is in custody and no further details will be released.
