Comox Fire crews battle weekend flames

There were no major wildfires in the Comox Valley, but the Comox Fire Department was put to work this weekend.

Fire Chief Gord Schreiner says the most significant call was a brush fire that came at about 5:30 PM on Saturday in the Southwind Road area.

Schreiner adds the fire was moving pretty fast, and it was caused by a couple of pickup trucks doing some monster truck training in the farmer’s fields.

He says there was also a second, smaller fire on Sunday.

Schreiner adds 2 trucks were sent out but the blaze was dealt with quickly. He says there were no injuries in either of the fires.
