IIO investigating youth arrest from 2018

The Independent Investigations Office of BC is looking for witnesses of an arrest of a Comox Valley youth in 2018, that resulted in the youth getting injured.

The IIO says it happened just before 5 p.m. on Jan. 3, and she was arrested in front of the liquor store at the Comox Valley Mall. They say police believed that she would be at risk if not apprehended.

A civil claim was filed on Nov. 21, 2022 and the IIO says police told them about the incident on Feb. 21, 2023. They add the youth claimed serious injuries.

The IIO is asking anyone with relevant information or video footage of the incident to contact the witness line at 1-855-446-8477 or on the IIO website.
