Comox Valley RCMP member participating in Wounded Warrior Run

A Comox Valley RCMP member will help raise awareness and funds for veterans and first responders with PTSD by participating in the Wounded Warrior Run.

The run, which starts on Sunday in Port Hardy, will see military and first responders cover over 800 km down to Victoria. They will pass through the Comox Valley on Wednesday.

The Comox Valley RCMP says this year’s run holds particular significance as Sgt. Rob Brennan is taking part.

Brennan has served many communities in B.C. including Port Hardy, Haida Gwaii and the Comox Valley. They say his service mainly put him on the frontlines, where he faced many challenges and demands of policing, and he wants to help others.

“Policing is an extremely rewarding career; however, the reality that cannot be ignored is that it comes with regular exposure to trauma, horrific scenes and dangerous conditions,” said Brennan.

“Over the course of my career, I have observed many members who have suffered immensely as a result of the mental toll this takes on one’s mind. I have a passion and I am driven to empower others to open up about their struggles, seek assistance and overcome challenges.”

The goal of the run is to raise funds and awareness for Wounded Warriors Canada, which helps veterans, first responders and their families cope with trauma. The charity’s long-term goal is to help them feel safe, supported, and understood.

The run also has other stops in Campbell River and Nanaimo.
