Report on five-year financial plan to be presented to Courtenay council

Courtenay council will discuss the 2024-2028 general fund financial plan on Wednesday.

City manager Geoff Garbutt will present the report to council for consideration and to give direction for staff to prepare a financial plan bylaw.

The plan will include $57.5 million in total revenue. Most of the money comes from taxation at $34.65 million, $49.9 million in operating expenditures, $1.35 million in debt payments, and $5.1 million in contribution to various reserves.

Along with those increases, the budget also includes a recommended increase of $3.4 million in municipal property taxes to cover operating, capital, and debt costs.

The report says getting the plan approved is important for the service priorities, operating and capital budgets in each city department for the next five years.

Once the plan is endorsed by council, it will be consolidated with the water and sewer funds to form the bylaw, which will be presented to council to get authorized.

The meeting will take place in the civic room on Harmston Avenue at 12:30.
