Top marks for City of Courtenay’s safety program

Full marks for the City of Courtenay’s safety program!

The BC Municipal Safety Association presented the certificate of recognition to the city at today’s council meeting.

Worksafe BC recently conducted an audit, and the city scored 93%, well above the 80% required to achieve certification.

Courtenay CAO David Allen says he is very pleased with the results. He adds he had the chance to meet with the auditor in charge of the process.

Allen says the recognition shows how safe of a work environment the city provides.

Allen adds this also reflects positively in reduced insurance premiums.

Other audit categories include programs and procedures, hazard identification and control, education and certification, training, incident investigation, program administration, inspections and the Joint Health and Safety Committee. The committee received a stellar 99% grade.

City staff have developed an action plan to improve any audit categories where there was room for improvement.
