Water main flushing to start Monday

Starting Monday, your tap water might change colour, but it’s nothing to worry about.

The city will be flushing water mains in parts of east Courtenay as part of the City’s unidirectional flushing program, which aims to improve water quality in the water distribution system. As part of this year’s flushing, three areas will be affected.

Area 6 will see flushing from Lower Comox Road to Vanier Drive and Old Island Highway to Back Road. Area 7’s flushing takes place from Dingwall Road to Cotton Road and Island Highway North to Veterans Memorial Parkway.

For Area 8, McDonald Road to Ryan Road and Back Road to Lerwick Road will also have flushing.

The city says during flushing hours, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., homes and commercial properties could see temporary water pressure fluctuations, cloudy water, and discolouration.

They recommend you do your laundry and dishwashing outside of those hours, and to clear discoloured water by running cold water taps.

If the water isn’t clear after an hour, you are asked to call the city’s operational services at 250-338-1525 anytime from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on weekdays.

The flushing will run until April 26.
