CVRD to hold session on proposed septic program

You can learn more about a proposed, district-wide septic program in an information session later this month.

The session will be held by the Comox Valley Regional District, which wants to implement a septic regulatory program within Electoral Areas A, B, and C. They say the program could reduce sewage contamination impacts in sensitive water courses.

General manager of engineering services Marc Rutten says protecting the environment is a top priority.

“The CVRD is recommending mandatory pump-outs of septic systems in all electoral areas plus requirements for inspections for high-risk areas,” said Rutten.

If the program gets implemented, the CVRD says it will include inspections for high-risk areas, mandatory pump-outs, creating a bylaw mandating inspections and periodic pump-outs every five years, and that it will all be coordinated by property owners.

The session will be in-person, taking place at the district’s office on Harmston Avenue from 5 to 7 p.m.

It will run on April 29.
