Local doctor recognized for his efforts at recent awards show

A Comox Valley doctor has been recognized for his work as a family physician.

Dr. Jonathan Kerr, who is also a councillor for Comox, recently won the My Family Doctor award as part of this year’s BC College of Family Physicians awards. It’s an event dedicated to showcasing physicians, residents, and medical students across the province.

The college says during his time as chair of the Comox Valley Family Physician Recruitment and Retention Task Force, 44 family physicians and 8 nurses were hired to the region over the past 3 years.

He’s described by his patients as a compassionate listener, meticulous caregiver, and an ally for those on their journey to wellness.

They say his experience also includes being president of the Ontario College of Family Physicians, served on the Board of the College of Family Physicians of Canada, and was the Primary Care Lead for the Southeast Local Health Integration Network in Ontario.

He was given the award at Thursday’s ceremony.
