Courtenay Fire crews snuffed out a small bark mulch fire this afternoon near the Driftwood Mall in south Courtenay.
Courtenay Fire Chief Don Bardonnex says the brisk winds presented some challenges for fire crews.
Bardonnex says a discarded cigarette sparked the blaze…and the fire spread very quickly.
Discarded cigarettes have triggered numerous fires on the south coast.
