Cumberland campground adds new ‘sleeping barrels’ ahead of tourist season

If you plan on taking a camping trip to Cumberland Lake Park this summer, you may notice some unusual looking campsites.

The Lake Park Society, who runs the campground announced the opening of 5 new sites that feature locally crafted sleeping barrels.

The barrels have room for one queen bed, a mini fridge and feature a bubble window for viewing the outdoors.

“The Village is excited to see the unique additional accommodation options that the sleeping barrels provide to visitors to our community,” said Cumberland Mayor Vickey Brown, “and we sincerely appreciate the efforts of Lake Park Society in making the project a success.”

Funding for the project came from the Island Coastal Economic Trust and the provincial government.

“They created a distinctive product that will draw new visitors to Cumberland, helping grow the tourism sector and supporting entrepreneurs and local businesses.” said Aaron Stone, Chair of the Island Coastal Economic Trust.

The project was originally announced in October of 2023 and is now available for reservation.
