Kevin Falcon emphasizes cleaning up the healthcare system at Courtenay townhall

The BC United party is putting a focus on healthcare in their election campaign.

Party leader Kevin Falcon was in Courtenay on May 30, 2024, answering questions from the town faithful while laying out his party’s plan if they were to win the upcoming election.

Falcon talked strongly about changing the current healthcare system and said it needs more workers now than ever.

“But our healthcare system still has huge challenges, and I’ll tell you some of the things we have to do in the midst of a healthcare crisis. We have to bring our unvaccinated healthcare workers back into the system now, this is very, very important.”

The answer drew a large crowd approval, as many voiced their pleasure with the idea in the form of applause.

Falcon touched on a wide variety of topics, including taxes, schooling, housing, and the overdose crisis.

The leader of the opposition said he wants to help people with addictions and mental health issues get off the streets and help reshape their lives.

Part of that plan includes Falcon wanting to restrict the use of drugs in public places, something he said is being done in local hospitals which he doesn’t agree with.

“But I’m sorry, that makes no sense my friends, if you can’t smoke cigarettes in hospitals, why on Earth are you allowed to use drugs illicitly?”

The 2024 B.C. Provincial Election is scheduled for October 19, 2024.
