SD 71 studio band to kick off Simms Park concert series next weekend

Simms Park will be coming alive with the sound of music, thanks to the School District 71 studio band.

The city has announced the band is the season opener for the Simms Park series. The series is free and showcases multiple musicians at the Simms Millenium Park during the summer months.

The city says the band, led by students from Grades 10 to 12, is a jazz ensemble that plays swing, rock, Latin, and funk tunes.

They ask you to bring a lawn chair or blanket to enjoy the show, which will start on June 9 at 7:00 p.m.
