Former veteran announces run for Courtenay-Comox riding with the BC Conservatives

After the previous candidate resigned, the BC Conservatives have found their replacement for the Courtenay-Comox riding ahead of this year’s provincial election.

Former Canadian Armed Forces and now local businessman Sean Smith announced last night in a press release his intent to run for MLA.

Smith has been involved with the BC Conservative’s on and off for the past 20 years but said it’s time to make a common sense change this election.

“You can’t tax your way out of climate change, you can’t solve a drug crisis by making it easier to access and hold hard drugs, and you can’t make the cost of living more affordable by making things more expensive.”

Smith joined the Armed Forces in 1986, working for 15 years before retiring in 2001.

Since leaving, Smith has become a social media educator and coach, owning his own IT company, and managed security operations and business development for an Island-based security company.”

Smith spent some of his Armed Service time at 19 Wing Comox and enjoyed his time there but said he’s saddened to see what’s become of the area.

“When I arrived at 19 Wing Comox in June of 2000, I fell in love with the area. From the scenery to the lifestyle, the Comox Valley was just full of potential. Now I drive along Cliffe Avenue, and I am saddened by the visible decline.

What was once an extreme right ideologies party, Smith said the BC Conservatives are a focused group who have an opportunity to “refloat a ship that is sinking fast.”

Smith replaces Damon Scrase, who resigned following old social media posts resurfacing that were deemed anti-LGBTQ.
