World Hepatitis Day is tomorrow…and local politicians have had a challenge put in front of them.
Sarah Sullivan, the manager of AIDS Vancouver Island’s Courtenay and Campbell River offices, says they’re being asked to get themselves tested for Hepatitis C.
She adds Hepatitis C is something that affects a number of Canadians. She says the disease affects around 220,000 people throughout Canada and approximately 44% of those people don’t know they have it.
Sullivan adds Hepatitis C can lead to chronic liver disease and liver cancer. She says World Hepatitis Day is an event that aims to raise awareness about the disease and encourage people to get tested.
