TELUS is improving internet speeds for multiple communities on Vancouver Island.
The company is offering higher internet speed and more access to digital services and opportunities to more than 800 households across Vancouver Island.
Installations have taken place in five different Island communities; Quatsino First Nation, Coal Harbour, Sproat Lake, Forbidden Plateau, and Ross Road which includes approximately 2.3 kilometres of homes along the Island Highway in Nanoose Bay.
Comox Valley Regional District (CVRD) board chair Will Cole-Hamilton said it’s important for the Forbidden Plateau to get this much needed upgrade.
“Investing in reliable, high-speed broadband internet access within the Forbidden Plateau area will ensure residents remain connected and supported. This commitment by the Province and partners demonstrates dedication for building stronger local communities.”
The upgrade is part of StrongerBC: Good Lives in Strong Communities, allowing investments in rural communities and the people who call them home to build brighter futures.
$2.6 million has been invested by the BC Government through the connecting British Columbia program administered by the Northern Development Initiative Trust.
TELUS has also contributed over $2.6 million and 37,500 more from the Mount Waddington Regional District.
