Nurse disciplined for assuming authority she didn’t have, medication mishaps

A Campbell River nurse who overstepped her boundaries at a long-term care home has agreed to voluntary discipline.

LPN Keely Sherick agreed to terms set by the BC College of Nurses and Midwives this week, after a series of issues from February to August last year.

Sherick pronounced someone dead without an order and failed to properly document narcotic and controlled medication records. She also failed to report a medication error, and didn’t collaborate effectively with members of the care team, according to a notice from the college.

Sherick has agreed to direct and indirect supervision for the next three months, along with a limit preventing her from being the sole nurse on duty providing supervision to other staff. She will also undergo several remedial education courses.
