CVRD opens cooling spaces as heat warning continues

As the heat warning continues, the Comox Valley Regional District has opened cooling spaces for you to use.

These emergency spaces come after Environment and Climate Change Canada issued a heat warning for parts of Vancouver Island and the Sunshine Coast, including the Comox Valley on Friday.

The district says the spaces are used to give temporary relief from extreme heat conditions.

In Courtenay, spaces are available at the Lewis Centre, Lewis Park Splash Park, and the Outdoor pool under their regular hours, with the splash park one open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Over in Comox, the space at the Community Centre is available Monday to Friday from 6:00 a.m. to 9:30 p.m., and from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on weekends.

The space at Comox Marina is open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily, while the ones at the Misting stations are open from 12 to 5 p.m. on days above 26 degrees Celsius.

Two cooling spaces are available in Cumberland, open in the Cumberland Library on regular hours and the Village Park Splash Park from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

For the regional district, you can find spaces in the Aquatic Centre and Sports Centre open on regular hours, while the K’omoks First Nation has a cooling space in the Health Centre.

The centre’s open Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. for members of the nation and community.
