Buildings in Coal Creek Historic Park to be deconstructed

Starting today, the buildings in Coal Creek Historic Park will be deconstructed in Cumberland.

The Village says the work is part of a decommissioning project, aiming to restore the native species of these affected areas.

As part of the work, multiple outbuildings and the former Souther residence will be deconstructed and discarded, while crews work on installing a temporary creek crossing in the area.

After it’s done, the crossing will be removed, the derelict bridge to be dismantled, and the creek banks to be restored to a more natural state. They say parks staff will be monitoring the site as the work continues.

While you will still have access to the Japanese Townsite Parking Lot, the Village adds you can expect an increase in machine and traffic activity in the area.

They encourage you be cautious while in the area and to respect all of the signs and fencing.
