After two months of construction, one-way traffic will soon move from Comox Road to Comox Hill.
On March 10, Comox Road started having one-way traffic to let crews construct a sewer forcemain pipe for the Comox Valley Sewer Conveyance Project, with the traffic change in effect until this May.
Earlier this week, the Comox Valley Regional District announced that the one-way traffic will be moving to Comox Hill later this month to help build the pipe. The section of Comox Road affected by current traffic will re-open May 12.
They say this change will see vehicles moving west on the hill from Comox to Courtenay 24 hours a day, 7 days a week from May 12 to June 3. For cyclists and pedestrians, two-way traffic is possible in the meantime.
Vehicle traffic will be one-way Mondays to Fridays from 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., while pedestrians and cyclists get two-way traffic from June 3 to early July.
The work zone will be closed to all from 8:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. on these days, with weekends having one-way and two-way traffic 24 hours a day.
From July to September, drivers will be moving one-way for 7 days a week again, and two-way traffic will also be possible at the same time.
The district says you can access the detour route up Ryan Road and onto Lerwick Road while crews work, with businesses on Comox Road to be open.
Change starts May 12, and looks to run until September.
