Campbell River man charged with animal cruelty

A Campbell River man has been charged with animal cruelty, accused of beating his dog and causing serious facial and jaw injuries. The SPCA took possession of the dog back in February.

The investigation revealed numerous injuries, along with older, untreated injuries on the pit bull -German shepherd mix.

Senior Animal Protection Officer Tina Heary says they are pleased to see the crown prosecutor taking this to court.

She says it’s important that cases such as this go before the courts.

The man’s first court appearance is set for the end of this month. Bail conditions imposed prohibit him from possessing or having custody of any dogs.
