Quite the up-take from valley residents on the Great British Columbia Shakeout earthquake exercise. Local PEP coordinator Mike Fornier says over 15-thousand valley residents participated.
Fornier says despite the valley placing in the top three of Vancouver Island communities for registered participants, awareness on earthquake preparation is definitely an up-hill battle.
So lots of valley residents doing the drop, cover and hold exercise for the Great BC Shakeout drill, but as Mike Fornier explains, not much of a response from valley airport travellers…although all airport staff fully participated.
Fornier says the local Provincial Emergency Program continues to hold emergency preparation workshops on a regular basis.
