Local student has scholarship taken away

A thousand dollar scholarship is gone for local NIDES student Alannah Clark. She says she needed to graduate by August 31st to receive her award, but couldn’t, as the teacher’s strike disrupted her plans to take her final course, Biology 12, over the summer.

Clark says because of the job action, she had no access to teachers for the course, and she couldn’t even get inside the building. The Ministry of Education later revoked the scholarship.

Clark says she’s not trying to play the blame game, but she’s obviously frustrated the ministry has taken the money away. She says she’s considered using crowd funding sources to raise the money, but failing that, she’ll be working her butt off over the next few months to save enough up for tuition. She’s also hoping to meet with local MLA and former Education Minister Don McRae.
