Comox airport sees flights return to Puerto Vallarta

International travel has returned to the Comox Valley Airport with non-stop flights to and from Mexico.

The Saturday flights will take travellers from the valley down to Puerto Vallarta. The first flight left the Comox Valley on Saturday. However, it was delayed due to an outage of WestJet services.

The IT issue caused frustration for some passengers, but the airport says the flight was able to leave in the afternoon. They add new upgrades like a licenced seating area and enhanced screening services made waiting easier for passengers.

Airport CEO Mike Atkins says the flight marks a return to pre-pandemic travel at the airport.

“It is exciting to see the return of the non-stop service to Puerto Vallarta following the forced hiatus brought on by the pandemic,” said Atkins.

“Saturday’s flight marks the resumption of all pre-pandemic routes, which along with increasing passenger numbers continue the positive momentum on air service to and from the North Island.”

The flight is the first international service to operate from the airport since April 2020.
