Sprinkle of rain in the forecast-Small fire doused on Forbidden Plateau

Well after several weeks of drought like conditions, forecasters say some cooler weather is on the way this weekend, and believe it or not a sprinkle of rain.

But Courtenay Fire Chief Don Bardonnex says that small dose of the wet stuff, is not even going to make a dent in the region’s fire hazard.

As this heat wave continues, you’d think public pressure on those who carelessly discard their cigarettes would be on the upswing.

We asked Courtenay Fire Chief Don Bardonnex if his rank and file firefighters are seeing more cases of people sounding the alarm on careless smokers.

Meanwhile Coastal Fire Centre Crews have just doused a small, 10 by 20 metre bush fire on Forbidden Plateau this afternoon, however much of the smoke in that area is coming from the massive Port Alberni wildfire, now pegged at 400 hectares.

The fire danger rating sits at extreme for most of the North Island and Sunshine Coast.
