Solid waste management plan being renewed for the next decade

A solid waste management plan in the Comox Valley is being renewed for the next ten years.

According to Comox Strathcona Waste management, they are renewing the plan, which would describe how they’ll manage garbage, recycling, yard, and food waste programs for the next decade.

This process is recommended by the ministry of environment and climate change strategy so that the plan can reflect the practices and ongoing realities of solid waste.

The last time they updated the plan was in 2012.

Renewing the plan includes four steps, with the process at the third step, called Evaluate Strategies.

They say it focuses on developing potential waste management strategies, assessing their impacts, and discussing them with the public.

A presentation on their progress is set for Wednesday’s council meeting in Courtenay, starting at 4 pm.
