6th Street Bridge open, ribbon cutting ceremony taking place Friday

The newest crossing over the Courtenay River is now open.

The City of Courtenay said the 6th Street Active Transportation Bridge has opened ahead of schedule.

To celebrate the opening, council, project partners and community guests will gather for a ribbon-cutting ceremony Friday.

The ceremony is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. at Simms Millennium Park.

The bridge connects both sides of the river for people walking, cycling and rolling.
