CVRD sheds restrictions for most water systems

The Comox Valley Regional District has lifted water restrictions for most of its water systems, effective Friday, Nov. 6.

The change applies to properties connected to the Comox Valley Water System, as well as the Black Creek-Oyster Bay, Union Bay and Graham Lake water systems.

The regional district said recent rainfall has increased creek and river flows and helped replenish reservoirs, making the restrictions no longer necessary.

Restrictions in the Royston water system are expected to be lifted next week, following notification from the Village of Cumberland.

“We are incredibly grateful to everyone in the Comox Valley for their dedication to water conservation during this challenging, dry year,” said Kris La Rose, general manager of engineering services. “Thanks to your efforts and the recent return of wet weather, we can lift water restrictions while continuing to safeguard our water resources. Your commitment makes a real difference in ensuring a resilient future for our communities.”

The regional district thanked residents for conserving water during the dry year and encouraged them to continue conserving water to help protect local supplies.
