Government funds coming to rebuild Comox Marina services building

The Comox Marina services structure will be rebuilt to create a better user experience.

Comox recently received $380,000 from the federal government. The money is a part of $4.3 million being distributed to communities across Vancouver Island communities.

The building will be demolished and replaced with a new, renovated structure at the popular location near the splash park.

Comox mayor Russ Arnott says they will also create new additions to welcome visitors to the area.

“There’s going to be a commercial component to that building, it’s also going to have improved washroom facilities for the kids that use the splash park,” said Arnott. “There’s going to be a few amenities that we think will be really good for a community such as a visitor centre.”

“We get a lot of people come in from float planes and boats, so we want to show what Comox and the Comox Valley has to offer.”

Arnott adds the area became even more popular with families after council approved the splash park.

Council is hoping the funding, along with previous funds, will cover the cost of the entire project. However, Arnott says they may need more with rising costs and inflation taking their toll.
