Delegation denied at Courtenay Council

Like Comox council before them, Courtenay councillors denied a delegation request from a group of citizens concerned with the Northern Gateway Pipeline, and tanker traffic in the waters of British Columbia.

Courtenay Mayor Larry Jangula echoed the sentiment of Comox Mayor Paul Ives a few days earlier; that this issue simply falls outside of their jurisdiction.

24 year old Jay Baker-French was behind the proposed delegation, working with LeadNow.ca, the Dogwood Initiative, as well as the Council of Canadians.

He says those in attendance were obviously disappointed.

Baker-French reminds that Cumberland council agreed to hear the delegation, and will soon be voting on whether or not to take a stance on the issue.
