School Travel Planning in the Comox Valley

School District 71’s sustainability coordinator is hoping to see more active transportation at Comox Valley schools.

Angela Holmes is a proponent of School Travel Planning (STP).

She’s conducted surveys to see how many students choose methods like biking or walking to school over driving and taking the bus.

Holmes says she’s now asking for municipal funding to continue the program.

Holmes says one of the benefits to active transportation is a healthier lifestyle for kids.

She says with the municipal funding, she’ll be able to create best route maps, host meetings and spread active transportation to all the schools in the district.
