Sewer Pipe Inspections to Take Place in Courtenay

A contractor has begun sewer pipe inspections at different locations in Courtenay.

The inspections are planned primarily over large sections of West Courtenay, with an additional work zone North of Ryan Road along Braidwood and Back Roads.

The work will go for the next 8 weeks. The project is part of the city’s overall Asset Management program, focused on proactive maintenance to reduce risks and extend the life of existing infrastructure, which will minimize long-term costs.

Sewer pipe inspections involve using a remote control camera to grade the condition of the underground sanitary and drainage pipes in order to prioritize utility renewal throughout the city.

Staff says that roadways may be reduced to single lane alternating traffic flow directly adjacent to working crews with traffic control personnel on site.
