COMOX VALLEY, B.C.- The Comox Valley Regional District (CVRD) is hosting two open houses to discuss the new wastewater treatment project.
The District plans to start building a new water treatment plant next year, to be completed by 2021.
In a release by the CVRD, Chair of the Water Committee Bob Wells said, “we know the community interest in the new water treatment system is very high.”
“The CVRD has a strong plan for moving forward to deliver residents the modern system they deserve, and we look forward to keeping everyone informed as the project moves forward.”
The entire project is estimated to cost $110 million. At least 74 per cent will be paid by reserves and grant funding, according to the Regional District.
However, up to $29 million must be borrowed to pay for the remaining share of the costs.
The CVRD plans to use the Alternative Approval Process (AAP) to receive the consent of Valley residents to borrow the necessary funds.
The open houses will offer an overview of the project to date, reasons why a new system is needed, and a summary of the next steps that are required to secure grant funding and proceed with construction.
The first event is on Monday, January 29th from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the CVRD’s board room (550B Comox Road, Courtenay).
The second open house takes place Thursday, February 1st from 5 to 7 at the Comox Golf Club (1718 Balmoral Avenue, Comox).
