CVRD to implement stage two water restrictions Thursday

COMOX VALLEY, B.C. – In response to the province’s drought rating (link to drought story), the Comox Valley Regional District will be instituting stage two water restrictions this week.

The restriction will come into effect on Thursday, August 2nd.

This will also coincide with BC Hydro’s plans to reduce flows in the Puntledge River.

Under stage two restrictions, watering days are Tuesdays and Saturdays for even-numbered addresses, and Wednesdays and Sundays for odd-numbered addresses during the hours of 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m., and between 8:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m.

Sprinklers are not permitted for lawn or garden watering on Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays.

The restrictions apply to the Town of Comox, City of Courtenay, and the Sandwick, Arden, Comox Valley, England Road, Marsden/Camco and Greaves Crescent water local service areas.

“Stage two restrictions are necessary to maintain a healthy lake level and river flow for the rest of the summer,” said GM of Engineering Services for the CVRD, Marc Rutten, in a district-issued release.

“By taking this additional step to reduce water use in our community, we can help ensure there is enough water available for fish flows, domestic needs and fire protection.”

More details about stage two restrictions can be found via the CVRD’s website.
