Comox Valley School District launches online resource guide for families during COVID-19

School District 71 has created an all-in-one resource guide to help school district employees link families with community supports during the global pandemic

Outreach Counsellor Tara Ryan says the online document covers a wide range of support topics to help families get the support they need.

“We’re trying to make it really user friendly in terms of what parents may need and what families may need at this time particularly with respect to housing, access to food, physical and mental health support and that sort of thing.”

“We’ve been reaching out from the district, all of the teachers have been making contact with their families, a lot of us in student services are doing the same thing and just trying to find out how we can best support our families as they’re working to fill the gaps around what their kids might need at this time,” added Ryan.

She says the district understands how hard it is right now for families in the Comox Valley, and it’s doing what it can to help.

“We’re just trying to recognize the varying levels of stress in families. Some are managing just fine and it’s not that much of a problem and some are really struggling.”

“Our whole goal was to just to try and provide the whole comprehensive guide which outlines all of those resources so that both teachers who are speaking with families and other staff members can guide parents in that direction or parents can access it themselves on the school district website.”

The district updates the online resource guide on a daily basis and you can view it for yourself by clicking here.
