New home and building construction going strong in Comox Valley

COMOX VALLEY, B.C. – New figures show new home and building construction in British Columbia has jumped 17% above pre-pandemic levels. The Comox Valley region appears to reflect even stronger growth numbers. According to Chad Smith, who runs Structural Spaces in Comox, says he has been busy like this for a couple of years.

The newest figures from the BC Construction Association, which reports the total contribution of the construction industry to society in the region now exceeds $134 billion, with more than 215,000 workers employed in this sector. The company publishing the information is crane rental, heavy lift and engineered transportation company Sarens which constructs new buildings.

The jump in construction has not only provided more jobs, but it has led to the emergence of a significant number of new construction firms, up 11% over the last five years.
